Jim Falvey joined ElectronX in 2024 after decades of experience as a corporate attorney specializing in commodities and derivatives, securities, digital assets and intellectual property. Most recently, Jim was the General Counsel and Chief Regulatory Officer of EverMarkets (EMX), a crypto derivatives exchange. He was also a Co-Founder & General Counsel for Intellectual Property Coin Group (IPCG), as well as Big Data Block (BDB).
Jim has held many senior attorney roles in capital markets, including as an Associate General Counsel at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (now CME Group). He also served as the first General Counsel of Intercontinental Exchange (ICE). Jim’s additional General Counsel experience includes roles at Ocean Tomo, where he worked on the development of the Intellectual Property Exchange (IPX); derivatives exchange Eurex US, later U.S. Futures Exchange (USFE); brokerage firm R.J. O’Brien; and financial technology firm GreenKey Technologies. Jim also served as the interim compliance/regulatory officer at futures exchange OneChicago. Beginning in 2011, Jim also managed his own boutique law firm, Falvey Law Office, focusing on trial and appellate litigation, financial regulatory projects and corporate work.
Jim’s earlier experience in government positions includes roles as legislative assistant for U.S. Rep. Fred Upton, law clerk for U.S. District Court Judge Richard Enslen, and as an appointed member of the Technology Advisory Committee for the CFTC.
Jim has taught courses on derivatives and digital assets at the Chicago Kent School of Law and a commodity market course at Penn State University. He earned a bachelor’s degree in government from the University of Notre Dame, a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, and an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.
